Nicholas Stuart is a Managing Director on the energy investment banking team at KeyBanc Capital Markets. Delivers strategic advice and finances energy companies. Prior to joining KeyBanc in 2012, was a VP at another investment bank for six years. Began career with "Big 5" CPA audit firm in Washington, DC, covering a variety of sectors, including natural resources, for four years.
Earned B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland and a MBA from the University of Virginia.
As a component of graduate studies, attended the China-European International Business School in Shanghai, China and briefly worked in the China studies group of DaimlerChrysler-Benz.
Married to multi-disciplinary artist, Zsavon Butler. Celebrating 20 years of marriage in May and they have two adult children. The youngest recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, attended West U Elementary, Pershing Middle, Carnegie Vanguard High School and is currently a freshman at the University of Houston. Oldest son works in telecommunications and lives in the Dallas area.
Grew up in the suburbs of Washington, DC in Silver Spring, Maryland (think Spring, Texas). Relocated to Houston due to growing energy career in 2012. Explored many Houston neighborhoods during relocation process and we fell in love West U.
Once in Texas, researched part of family history and "re-learned" great grandfather was a farmer and preacher named LW Thomas in East Texas in the early 1900s. LW signed an oil drilling lease, which extended drilling rights to a famous oil wildcatter named AE Humphrey. This led to the discovery of the Mexia oil field in Mexia, TX.
Nicolas' mother gets a tiny royalty check each year from affiliates of ConocoPhillips from the nearly depleted field.
Enjoys raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Bike MS 150 road bicycling event in Houston. Rides for my mom and sister who were both previously diagnosed with MS (both are currently asymptomatic). Participated in over 10 rides and received an award for personally raising over $100,000 over the years. Have gotten to know many others with MS and have expanded the list of people that I ride for.
Enjoys supporting a number of the regions charitable causes, including DeCamera, Houston Foodbank, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Ballet, HSPVA’s DocFest, 100 Club and 100 Club Survivors Fund, March of Dimes, Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) and most recently served as gala chairs for the Arts Alliance Annual Gala.
